Best Social Program Is A Job

Ronald Reagan once said “The best social program is a job.” I happen to agree with him. Our Commonwealth has a responsibility to assist able-bodied individuals to become self-sufficient. Our public policies should reflect that fact. When I talk about welfare reform, this is what I mean: helping to get people who can work back to work. The goal of this type of reform is to break the cycle of poverty which our current welfare system perpetuates. People want to work and provide for themselves and their families. In fact, studies suggest that people are happier and healthier when they take pride in their work. Incentivizing work should be a part of our new welfare program.
On Jan. 2, I was joined by legislators from across Pennsylvania to announce a package of welfare reform legislation, focused not only on cost savings but in developing true pathways to prosperity. Welfare costs continue to rise, driving up our state budget year after year. In fact, today we spend more on welfare than on education. Since 2003, the number of Pennsylvanians on Medicaid has risen from 12 percent to 20 percent. In this same time, the number of Pennsylvanians on Food Stamps has more than doubled from six percent up to 14 percent of our total population. This is not acceptable in our Commonwealth.
The good news is that we don’t need to reinvent the wheel in taking the steps to find programs that “work.” In Kansas, work requirements were implemented resulting in almost 13,000 Kansans freed from the cycle of poverty. 60% of people leaving food stamps found jobs within a year and incomes rose on average by 127%. In Maine, similar results showed 114% increase in incomes. Crucially, for every $2,000 in public benefits lost, people earned an additional $3,000 in salary. These types of initiatives can truly get people back to work. However, nearly every Pennsylvania county has a waiver to avoid enforcing work requirements that are already in the law. Based on data from other states, enforcing work requirements could result in helping to get an additional 80,000-100,000 Pennsylvanians back to work and create nearly $200 million more in higher wages.
Another fact shown in studies is that time limits are effective tools in getting people off welfare and back to work. When implementing a policy to limit Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) in Kansas, family incomes doubled within the first year and eventually tripled. In Pennsylvania, we are one of a very few states who have an expansive e-TANF (extended TANF) program, which lasts beyond the five-year limitation of the TANF system and reduces the incentive to rejoin the workforce.
With the economy continuing to grow and businesses expanding, now is the perfect time to implement these type of initiatives: when jobs are available and employers are hiring, not during a recession when people are losing their jobs and need benefits. Currently in Luzerne County, Berkshire Hathaway, Chewy.com, and Medico Industries are all expanding and in need of workers among numerous other employers and professions throughout the county. It is our duty to help pave the way to prosperity, break the cycle of poverty, and promote lifestyles of self-sufficiency.

Since August 2016 Gab has been leading the way with exposing the double standards, hypocrisy, and mass censorship of Big Social Media companies in Silicon Valley. We’ve told you about shadow-banning, hypocritical one-sided rule enforcement, unfair treatment of conservatives and Trump supporters, and one-sided political agendas being pushed by these multi-billion dollar communication platforms that are used by hundreds of millions of people.

Olinda Hassan is a Policy Manager for Twitter’s Trust and Safety Team. Her team is responsible for the enforcement of Twitter’s rules and regulation, deciding who and what is allowed to be on the platform. Project Veritas caught her on camera saying this:

Olinda: “We’re trying to down rank it, but you also need to have control of your timeline.”

Olinda: Yeah. That’s something we’re working on. It’s something we’re working on. We’re trying to get the shitty people to not show up. It’s a product thing we’re working on.”
Some of the other admissions captured by Project Veritas are staggering, and confirm everything that Gab has been saying since August 2016: Silicon Valley is censoring Trump supporters, conservatives, and anyone else they disagree with politically. Here’s a quote from a former member of Twitter’s Content Review Team:

Mo Norai: Correct, and they you know you’re looking at it and you’re like: “Oh hey, this is Pro-Trump ….I don’t like it.

Huma Weiner Divorce Is Off!!! — Happy news!!! Huma Abedin is calling off her divorce to ex-Democrat Congressman Anthony Weiner. Their marriage hit a rough spot when Anthony was sentenced to prison for sending obscene pictures of himself to a young girl.
This is good news as they were obviously in love. They shared everything. Even laptop computers when Huma was Hillary’s top aide!!!
Is the reconciliation due to Huma’s returning to her strict Islamist upbringing and recognizing Little Tony as her rightful lord and master? Her parents were big in the Muslim Brotherhood after all.
Or is it because under U.S. law spouses can’t be compelled to testify against each other?

President Trump DACA Pledge — President Trump is getting grief from some circles regarding his televised bipartisan meeting yesterday, Jan. 9, in which he expressed willingness to codify Barack Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) non-legislative action.
Obama instituted the policy on June 15, 2012. Its claimed intent was to allow people brought to the U.S. illegally as minors to stay since they were raised here and are culturally Americans.
Obama’s action, however, was called, rightly, an abuse of power — including by Trump during his campaign — especially after Obama later sought to expand the scope of the policy. The expansions were halted by the courts.
Anyway, on Sept. 5, Trump rescinded Obama’s policy but delayed full implementation for six months — this means deportations — so Congress can pass a law making the policy legal.
About 800,000 persons are covered by DACA. The Obama policy protected them from deportation and made them eligible for work permits but did not make them citizens or grant them voting rights.
Most Americans have sympathy for the DACA people, including Trump, himself, who expressed such shortly after his election. Even during, the campaign he specifically said he had no plans on deporting every illegal.
For those still upset, Trump clearly gets what the big issues are, namely ending the poisonous policy of chain migration which allows new immigrants to bring over their extended families and the even more poisonous lottery system which requires us to take immigrants at random rather than sift them for things like education, skills and political philosophy.
And, of course, The Donald is still promising to building the wall and we are very confident he is going to keep that promise.
As someone once sang: You can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometime, you just might find, you get what you need.

Chuck Martini R.I.P. — Good friend Charles C. (Chuck) Martini died Jan. 3. He was 77.

Charles C. Martini, “Chuck”, age 77, of Media, PA, died on January 3, 2018. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Chuck was a graduate of West Catholic High School, class of 1958 and Villanova University, class of 1962. He obtained his M.B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1964 and began a successful career in business and marketing. He served as the Director of Marketing for Laventhol & Howarth and later became the President of Martini & Assoc. He was a part-time faculty member in the Business School of Villanova University (1971-1996), a seminar leader, and an author. Chuck headed his own consulting practice, Marketing Consultants, from 1983-2004.
Chuck formerly resided in Broomall and Secane. He was an active parishioner of St. Mary Magdalen Church in Upper Providence. He was a member of Sons of Italy, Knights of Columbus, West Catholic Alumni Association, and the Delco Tea Party. Chuck enjoyed trap and skeet shooting and was a member of Delaware Co. Field & Stream Assoc.
