John Ashe Black Lives Matter

So, who was John Ashe? He was the president of the United Nations General Assembly in 2014. He was accused of taking bribes from Chinese developer Ng Lap Seng for various schemes and charged with such.

Seng was a friend of the Clintons and had been involved with shady deals with that shady couple.

Ashe died in a tragic barbell accident in his home on June 22. He was just 62.

He had been scheduled to begin pre-trial meetings with federal prosecutors concerning the bribery charges.

We think his life matters. His death too.

Pennsylvania Stable Rating Will Be But Temporary

Pennsylvania Stable Rating Will Be But Temporary

By Leo Knepper

Earlier this week, Moody’s upgraded Pennsylvania’s financial outlook from “negative” to “stable.”

The improvement stems from the Legislature and the Governor avoiding each other just long enough to get a budget passed.

No one in the Capitol is rejoicing, however. The looming public pensions crisis serves as a constant reminder that the Commonwealth’s credit ratings can fall at any moment. Pennsylvania Stable Rating Will Be But Temporary

Sadly, not every lawmaker in the General Assembly understands how precarious and downright dangerous this crisis is. Some lawmakers maintain their ignorance purposefully, while others simply don’t understand the math. Members of both parties, in collusion with public-sector unions and special interest groups, are all that stand in the way of genuine reform-reform that could potentially lift the Commonwealth’s financial outlook from “stable” to “positive.”

In an op-ed published last month in the Philadelphia Inquirer, actuary and business consultant Richard C. Dreyfuss provided a frank and compelling summation of the problem:

“Our $63 billion combined unfunded liability for the Public School Employee’s Retirement System (PSERS) and the State Employees’ Retirement System (SERS) is the result of underfunding, poor investment returns, and benefit enhancements. It’s measured in today’s dollars and based on a number of assumptions, including an optimistic annual investment return of 7.5 percent.”

He also provided a relatively straightforward, common-sense solution:

“Pension reform will truly be underway when all new [public employees] participate in a stand-alone, defined-contribution plan and we commit to paying off our pension debt over 20 years.”

Simple right? Well, not to House Speaker Mike Turzai.

In an op-ed published earlier this month in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Turzai laid out his reasons for supporting a watered down solution known as the “stacked hybrid bill.” He says the bill would maintain “elements of the current defined benefit system, while instituting the first 401(k) system in state history.”

“Unlike other ‘reform’ proposals, the stacked hybrid approach doesn’t include arbitrage gambles, funding reductions or gimmicky quick fixes. We fully meet our funding obligations to the retirement systems.”

The hybrid plan does not “fully meet” funding obligations. Even if we switched the entire system from a defined-benefit to a defined-contribution retirement plan, that merely stops the bleeding; it won’t do anything to address the massive unfunded liability that has already accumulated. The stacked hybrid plan being promoted by state House leaders doesn’t even stop the bleeding because it maintains a defined benefit component.

This attempt at reform is, itself, a gimmick. Keeping any elements of the defined-benefit plan virtually guarantees that the unfunded liabilities will not only go unencumbered; they will continue to build.

Political courage may be in short supply these days, but numbers don’t lie. Pennsylvania taxpayers need their representatives to protect them from the “fiscal cliff” Turzai and his fellow lawmakers should know is coming.

The only solution is to stop pretending this Band-Aid of a bill is the tourniquet that will stop the bleeding and finally pass meaningful reform. The General Assembly and Governor Wolf must stop ignoring reality and pretending that half-measure reforms will stop the problem.

Elaine Schaefer Broken Window Politics. — Radnor Commissioner Elaine Schaefer is the Democrat seeking to fill the 165th Pennsylvania House seat being vacated by Bill Adolph who has held it since 1988.

Commissioner Elaine Schaefer with Superintendent William Colarulo and her campaign manager, Devin Gosnell, at the Springfield National Night Out event on Aug. 2.

Trying to keep it in Republican hands is Alex Charlton.

Ms. Schaefer attended National Night Out festivities in Springfield, which makes up a large part of the 165th District. The event is the first Tuesday in August and is designed to raise community-police awareness. It is a tradition in Springfield.

So Ms. Schaefer attended, which is fine, and she brought her campaign manager Devin Gosnell, which is fine, and she met Radnor Police Superintendent William Colarulo, which is also fine.

But then someone took a photo of the three of them together that Ms. Schaefer is using for her campaign.

That is a no no. Radnor prohibits township employees from being used in political campaigns. This is obviously something Ms. Schaefer did.

As political sins go, it is a  minor one. It’s not as though she sold our uranium to the Russians for personal enrichment, for instance. But the broken window theory applies to politics too. When small crimes are ignored big ones follow.

If Ms. Schaefer had a photograph taken of herself with a police officer from another township, there would  be no controversy. That she chose an official answerable to herself shows indifference to the law or, at best, blind stupidity.

Democrat Corruption Pandering Finally Called Out

Democrat Corruption Pandering Finally Called Out — Donald Trump spoke last night, Aug. 16, in West Bend, Wis., just outside riot-torn Milwaukee.

Democrat Corruption Pandering Finally Called OutWhat he said is worth reading again. It’s worth reading a thousand times, in fact, and making every decent Democrat you know read it:

The other party – the Democratic Party – nominated the personification of special interest corruption. The Democratic Party rigged the nomination to give it to Hillary Clinton, thus giving the soul of their party this year to the special interests.

I am running to listen to your voice, to hear your cries for help. The quiet voices in our society, not the loudest demonstrators, need to have their demands heard.

Jobs. Safety. Opportunity. Fair and equal representation.

We reject the bigotry of Hillary Clinton which panders to and talks down to communities of color and sees them only as votes, not as individual human beings worthy of a better future. She doesn’t care at all about the hurting people of this country, or the suffering she has caused them.

The African-American community has been taken for granted for decades by the Democratic Party. It’s time to break with the failures of the past – I want to offer Americans a new future.

It is time for rule by the people, not rule by special interests.

Every insider, getting rich off of our broken system, is throwing money at Hillary Clinton.

The hedge fund managers, the Wall Street investors, the professional political class.

It’s the powerful protecting the powerful.

Insiders fighting for insiders.

I am fighting for you.
