Juiceboxers Take Media Ignorance To New Level

As bad as the bias was that permeated the institutions that supplied the news for most Americans things have taken a frightening turn for the worse.

Those who write for the sources our self-described intellectual elites favor have shown themselves to be not merely ignorant of the basics of their beats but shamelessly so.

It’s like something out of movie Idiocracy, which was made but eight years ago.

Mollie Hemingway writing for TheFederalist.Com lays things out in all their ugliness.

She notes that New York Times writer Kate Zernike had no idea who Friedrich Hayek was. (Answer: the author of “Road to Serfdom” and the Nobel Prize winner for Economic Sciences in 1974.)

She excoriates David Savage of the Los Angeles Times who wrote earlier this month about that Supreme Court decisions under Chief Justice John Roberts saying they  “rely on well-established rights, such as freedom of speech and free exercise of religion, but extend those rights for the first time to corporations, wealthy donors and conservatives.”

So people who disagree with him who he calls “conservatives” didn’t have free speech until now?

How do these idiots get hired?

Ms. Hemingway describes how Ron Fournier of Vox (a new media site that hipsters think is hip) mixed up a map showing rates of gun ownership with that of gun violence.

She  points out that fellow Voxster Matt Yglesias mocked an airline for saying that the African nation of Ghana has giraffes by tweeting out a map of Africa saying “Where giraffes live versus where Ghana is”.

She gives a special category to Yglesias who wrote about South Florida without knowing what the Everglades was.

The name “juiceboxers” has been coined for these hip young precious pumpkins who were raised to believe  that whatever they said was right as long as it parroted political and social fashion.

Let us make sure they are not the future of communication.

IRS Record Keeping Hypocrisy

The Internal Revenue Service has lost critical emails of seven officials accused of targeting conservative groups.

Byran Preston of PJMedia.com notes that the IRS uses server based Microsoft Exchange as its email system hence its excuses of hard drive crashes and recycled backup tapes are not very plausible.

If emails are served on outside servers problems they would obviously not be susceptible to issues involving local computers.

Preston notes that the IRS website provides taxpayers with this strong record-keeping advice:

Note: Keep copies of your filed tax returns. They help in preparing future tax returns and making computations if you file an amended return.

  1. You owe additional tax and situations (2), (3), and (4), below, do not apply to you; keep records for 3 years.
  2. You do not report income that you should report, and it is more than 25% of the gross income shown on your return; keep records for 6 years.
  3. You file a fraudulent return; keep records indefinitely.
  4. You do not file a return; keep records indefinitely.
  5. You file a claim for credit or refund* after you file your return; keep records for 3 years from the date you filed your original return or 2 years from the date you paid the tax, whichever is later.
  6. You file a claim for a loss from worthless securities or bad debt deduction; keep records for 7 years.
  7. Keep all employment tax records for at least 4 years after the date that the tax becomes due or is paid, whichever is later.

Hypocrisy involving government always comes back to bite those responsible in the tail. It may take awhile but it will happen here as well.

Hillary Book Bombs

The Weekly Standard’s Daniel Halper is reporting that Hillary Clinton’s Hard Choices, a memoir of her State Department experiences is a bomb.

The book has sold 60,000 hard covers the first week and 24,000 ebooks according to Halper. Publisher Simon & Schuster was hoping for 150,000 print the first week.

Mrs. Clinton reportedly received a $14 million advance for the book — she’s not going to donate it to charity, btw . Simon & Schuster is not expecting to make it back.

Philadelphia School Bosses Make Big Bucks

The always excellent Commonwealth Foundation  published last month the first issue of Commonwealth Commentary, an old-fashioned, dead-tree newsletter.

Featured was an article by Maura Pennington describing how the Philly school bosses make big bucks despite the district being broke and crying for more money.

Ms. Pennington notes that Philadelphia School Superintendent William Hite pulls in $270,000 (not counting benefits) and his deputy makes $210,000.

Contrast that to the $175,000 salary pulled down by Gov. Tom Corbett.

Ms. Pennington reports that eight assistant superintendents make $145,000 each and the district’s budget director makes $128,724.

All told, 395 employees — about the size of a typical suburban graduating class — make over $100,000.

Again, not counting benefits.

The real reason that school vouchers and charter schools are opposed by these educational establishment is not because they are ineffective but because they will derail the gravy train.

The cost of a charter school is about 60 percent of that of a public school.

Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing

The Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing rule  proposed last July by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) would give the feds “more effective means to affirmatively further the purposes and policies of the Fair Housing Act” as per the Federal Register.

HUD notes that the Fair Housing Act directs program participants to take steps to “foster inclusive communities for all.”

That sounds peachy until it dawns on one that what it means is not the breaking down of historic racial barriers but  the breaking down of the barriers that discourage people who don’t play nice from living next to people who do.

It should further be noted that  this inclusive fostering is not going to occur in the gated communities favored by many GS 15 bureaucrats and the political moneybags who fund their masters.

The rule is scheduled to be finalized in December. Apparently Obama and his team of incompetent wannabe feudalists are afraid of having it an issue in this November’s election.

James O’Keefe, who may be the nation’s gutsiest journalist, has Hollywood actor Ed Begley Jr., actress Mariel Hemingway and director John Tickell on tape willing to sell this country to Islamic oil interests for $9 million.

A Project Veritas operative posing as a “Muhammad” from a Mideast oil family offered the money to fund an anti-fracking movie because “if Washington D.C.  continues fracking, America will be energy-efficient and then won’t need my oil anymore.”

“Sounds good” the Hollywooders said.

Please understand that those so smugly asserted as heroes in our entertainment are so asserted by people who have no understanding of right and wrong, and no concern about what’s in your best interest.

The same applies for those they claim are villains.

The pompous, self-righteous types among the sports media are still on their crusade to change the name of the Washington Redskins to something else.

Hey gang, did you ever think that there might be other issues of far more immediate import to the defense of human dignity?

That’s not conceding  that the name of Washington’s NFL franchise is somehow an offense to human dignity.

It is rather frequent that a word or symbol designed as an insult becomes a point of pride. Yankee as in New York Yankees started as insult. Rebel as in UNLV Running Rebels was meant to give offense.

In politics, whigs was originally a derogatory term for the derided English cattle-driver. It became the name of a major political party here and in Britain. Their British opponents — the Tories — trace their name to the Irish word for thief.

Any of you Horace Greeleys  ever ponder why most Christian churches have a cross on the steeple?

So to help keep the peace and to illustrate the hypocrisy and ultimate intolerance practiced by the pseudo-tolerant who rule the old media, we are going to again suggest a name change for Washington — this time The Fighting Honkies.

I want to see RGIII stand in the television lights after leading his team to an heroic come-from-behind win and say “I am proud to be a Fighting Honky”

I want to see the many Washington fans in the District declare themselves to be Fighting Honky Nation. I want to see them wear the burgundy and gold colors of The Fighting Honkies, and wave giant foam fingers saying Fighting Honkies #1 and t-shirts saying Fighting Honkies Rule.

That would actually be a rather great day for race relations.

Ron Shaich, the one-percenter who is CEO of the 1,800-store Panera chain, wants the minimum wage raised to $10.10 an hour.

Shaich is planning on installing touch screen kiosks at the Paneras to replace its cashiers.

The little-guy neighborhood bakery that he competes with would just as soon hire a neighborhood kid.

Of course, between Obamacare mandates and a minimum wage hike they won’t be doing much of that — assuming they remain in business which is anything but a safe assumption.

It should be noted that Shaich wants the wage mandated by law for all. He will not do it unilaterally for Panera workers, which he can do without government coercion.

Shaich is a major donor to Obama and his causes.

Tanning Salons Cannot Take Minors Now

Tanning salons in Pennsylvania must now be licensed and inspected by the Pennsylvania Department of Health with the May 6 signing of  Act 41 of 2014, reports State Rep. Jim Cox (R-129)

Additionally, the new law bans minors age 16 and younger from using the tanning facility and requires minors at age 17 to obtain parental consent prior to using the facility.

The law also requires tanning facilities to post notifications that ultraviolet light has a carcinogenic effect on skin, along with other health and safety requirements.

Violations can result in the revocation of registration and subsequent ability to operate within the Commonwealth.

Isn’t this a violation of the child’s right to choose? Shouldn’t a girl be allowed to bypass her parents by going to a judge if she really wants a tan in winter?  Where was Planned Parenthood when this intrusive law was passed?

Well girls take heart. There is always a chance a Pennsylvania governor will choose not to enforce the law.

At leas that’s what the AP is reporting so there is a better than even chance his comments are being seriously distoted.

Still, there is a point. The environs of Washington D.C. are the richest places in the nation. The wealth really must be distributed from there back to the rest of us.
