TISA Draft Sparks WikiLeaks Paranoia

The leaking of a draft of an international Trade in Service Agreement (TISA) by WikiLeaks is getting press.

The agreement would allow service-based companies — which include insurance, audiovisual, financial, information technology, express deliver and telecommunication firms — greater access to customers in other nations.

This would  be especially helpful to American firms.

WikiLeaks, the site founded by America-hating-whackjob  Julian Paul Assange, is quite angry about the agreement and is crying conspiracy.

A couple of questions to ponder:

When are drafts of agreements ever released to the public?

Why if it is such a big secret was the U.S. Chamber of Commerce praising the plan in a press release four months ago?

WikiLeaks can be described as a site dedicated to the selective leaking of documents designed to make the United States look bad. It has but 225 pages related to the People’s Republic of China, that bastion of sweetness and light, versus 9,720 pages to items the United States would have preferred to  have been kept under wraps.

By the way, most of the PRC stuff was leaked from the U.S.

For the conspiracy minded, WikiLeak’s TISA leak was done on June 19 and can be found here.

Summer 2014 Starts Now

Summer 2014 Starts Now

Summer 2014 starts at 6:51 a.m. EDT, June 21, which is right now if our internet service provider’s clock is accurate.

This means that tilt of Earth’s semi-axis is most inclined to the sun in the Northern Hemisphere which is a solstice.

The axis will in a few moments slowly start reversing itself until it is the Southern Hemisphere that is most inclined to the sun.

The would be the start of our winter (and Australia’s summer).

Today is the longest day of the year. Don’t expect the real heat to start happening for several more weeks, however. It takes a while for the ground to absorb all that solar energy and it is the ground that really makes things hot.

In Europe summer was traditionally considered to start May 1 which is why today is often referred to as “Midsummer.

This reckoning is still used in Ireland.

Some music to start the season:

Hillary Smeared 12 Year Old Rape Victim

In 1975, Hillary Clinton,  then Hillary Rodham , accepted Thomas Alfred Taylor as her client. Taylor was accused of raping a 12-year-old girl.

Miss Rodham got his first degree rape charge knocked down to unlawful fondling of a child and Taylor ended up spending less than a year in county prison.

She did this by telling the judge that the girl had an infatuation with older men and had lied in the past about sexual assault.

The girl grew to be a troubled woman and found herself in prison not that long ago. She was approached by Glen Thrush , a reporter from Newsday, in 2008 and shown the affidavit Miss Rodham submitted. It was the first time she had seen it as the case never went to trial and she was a minor.

The revelation shocked her according to the Thrush. She had never before accused anyone of sexual assault. She did not fantasize about older men.

Apparently, the woman who wants to be queen made the whole thing up and a destroyed a young girl.

In the 1980s, Mrs. Clinton discussed the matter with a reporter which was recorded on tape. She said her client passed a lie detector test.

“(It)  forever destroyed my faith in polygraphs,” she said laughing.

Taylor, who has died, was alive at the time. Of course, if Mrs. Clinton was willing to crush a young girl to advance her career why should she care about attorney-client privilege?

It’s hard to imagine Mrs. Clinton as a worse president than Barack Obama but one can’t see her being much better either.

The Democrat Party is the home of sociopaths who have no problem selling the rest of us if it advances themselves.

There are the Clintons, and there is Obama who ignored problems at the VA even when vets were dying and who sicced the IRS on his critics.  There is John “Jenghis Khan” Kerry who made up stories about Vietnam making himself a hero and everyone else a monster. There is Al Gore who parlayed a global warming scam into a TV network which he sold to oil-rich Arabs for a half-billion bucks so they can spread the propaganda of Al Jazeera.

Just keep telling yourself character doesn’t matter in our leaders and continue to vote Democrat. Try not to think of the children while doing so, however. You would find sleeping difficult if you should.

Phew! It was against the law to take a bath in Spain during the 17th and 18th centuries.

(Don’t laugh too hard. It remains illegal to take a bath in Boston unless ordered so by a physician according to many sites on the web.)

Making Kids Love Brushing Teeth

Way back  before the internet ruled when newspapers thrived, editors would receive free copy courtesy of North American Precis Syndicate with plugs for businesses wrapped in useful advice.

The smaller papers were special targets.

By 2001, the copy was arriving on CDs. We recently found one from May of that year and we share for the sake of history this tidbit from Crest concerning how to make children love brushing their teeth.

We kind of like the idea of getting the recommended three minutes of brushing by timing it to a favorite song.

We also take comfort in learning that North American Precis Syndicate remains with us.

Oral health can have a significant impact on overall health and well being of kids yet more than 50 percent of 5- to 9-year old children have at least one cavity or filling, according to the U.S. Surgeon General’s report on oral health in America. The report also states that tooth decay is the single most common chronic childhood disease, five times more common than asthma.
Every family needs to make oral health a priority. These simple tips from Crest make brushing a fun and enjoyable routine for kids.
•    Brush with the right tools
Kid-inspired toothbrushes come in fun shapes, colors and patterns that are specially sized with smaller heads and larger handles to aid in control. Select a toothbrush with soft bristles and rounded ends that provide gentle cleaning.
•    Fun-flavored toothpaste means fun brushing
Children’s toothpaste comes in an array of flavors and colors, such as bubble gum and sparkles, so let the kids choose their own tubes. Make sure to choose toothpaste that has fluoride to help strengthen tooth enamel and prevent cavities. Children under 6 should brush twice a day using a pea-size dab of toothpaste.
•    Music Makes the Minutes Go By
One of the best ways to make sure kids are brushing for the recommended three minutes is to pick a fun song of the same length to play while they brush. Start the song as soon as the toothbrush touches the first tooth and continue to brush for the duration of the song.
•    Award gold stars for outstanding oral practices
Children should brush their teeth twice a day, so keep track of their daily brushing on a calendar by using gold stars. At the end of each week, award a special prize if there are two stars for each day of the week.
•    Keep toothbrushes in view and within reach in the bathroom
Make sure the kids can reach their toothbrushes and toothpaste by keeping them on the counter or in a stick-on cup attached to the wall. If the dental tools are always in sight, they act as reminders that it’s brushing time.
•    Get the kids in the right frame of mind
Trips to the dentist can be a scary experience for some young children, so prepare them beforehand. Give kids an idea of what to expect during a dental visit with role-playing exercises, or using picture books to familiarize kids with dental tools. Children should see the dentist every six months for a complete oral checkup.
•    Brush with your kids
The more the merrier! Lead by example to teach your kids that brushing and flossing is an important part of their daily routine.

In response to the U.S. Surgeon General’s report, Crest has teamed up with Boys & Girls Clubs of America on Crest Healthy Smiles 2010, a program designed to provide oral health education and tools to underprivileged children nationwide.

The paragraphs below would have likely been snipped out as the publication wasn’t the one getting paid for by Crest for the publicity. For the sake of history we are including them with a link to the Crest site for April 2001, the nearest match available via Wayback Machine. Putting an actionable link in an article was not something that would have been possible on newsprint, of course. And we wonder how Healthy Smiles 2010 worked out.

Pierre Sprey Disses F-35

Pierre Sprey Disses F-35

The F-35, an “inherently terrible airplane”?

Pierre Sprey, the jazz musician/gospel singer who designed the legendary F-16 fighter, went on Canadian TV to call the new backbone of the United States Air Force “a turkey” that can neither win a dogfight nor provide ground support.

Why? Canada is making the F-35 the backbone of its air force as well.

Sprey says the plane’s vaunted stealth technology can be defeated by low frequency, long wave-length World War II era radars.

In fact, he says all our stealth technology can be defeated by such radar and that the Russians have picked up on this.

With all this doom and gloom, it should be pointed out that Sprey also dissed the F-15 which turned out to be a pretty successful aircraft.

In related matter, Sen. John McCain is trying to save the legendary A-10 Warthog, the beloved ground support aircraft that is slated to be replaced by the F-35.

And who designed the A-10? Pierre Sprey.

Sprey’s music was sampled on Kayne West’s rap hit Jesus Walks.

Below is Sprey’s interview last year with the Canadian Broadcast System’s Fifth Estate program.

Let Us Be Isolationists

By Chris Freind

The great ship moved silently through the water.

Actually, it didn’t, as a 60,000-ton, 1,000-foot-long aircraft carrier does nothing quietly. In fact, the approach of such a warship is known far in advance. So as Russia’s Admiral Kuznetsov recently entered Dutch waters — an overt show of force, given that its normal route would have taken her around Ireland — defense protocol was to scramble a Dutch naval vessel to “escort” the foreign ship until it passed. In addition to sending the unmistakable message that all potential threats will be met aggressively, shadowing a foreign ship allows for invaluable intelligence-gathering.

But there was one small problem.

The Dutch couldn’t find a single navy ship. Not one.

Incomprehensibly, they didn’t have a coast guard vessel either — inexcusable considering that the Netherlands possesses a strategically crucial coastline. So instead, it sent up an old propeller plane with zero surveillance capability to greet the Kuznetsov. That sound you may have heard was the Russian crew’s hysterical laughter.

Why the embarrassing response? Because the Dutch retired their entire fleet of dedicated maritime patrol aircraft 12 years ago, and the Royal Netherlands Navy was unavailable — not because the fleet was dispatched around the world protecting shipping lanes or fighting piracy, but because in reality it no longer exists, having been massively shrunk due to defense budget cuts.

But the problems of the Dutch — par for the course for most NATO countries — should come as a shock to no one. And it all boils down to appalling European ungratefulness and American stupidity.

NATO rules stipulate that member nations dedicate at least 2 percent of gross domestic product every year to defense spending, yet only four countries met that requirement last year, with the NATO average being 1.6 percent (which has been declining for decades). The United States, on the other hand, spent 4.1 percent, carrying the water for all the slacker countries, as it always does. And to what end?

Our “allies” skimp on defense so they can gleefully fund all their socialist pet projects, knowing full well that the American security guarantee remains staunchly in place. Their “let the Americans do the heavy lifting while we party it up” mentality is the ultimate slap in the face, a giant middle finger to the nation whose Greatest Generation saved their hides (and the world) from the most brutal regimes in history, during both World War II and the Cold War.

And we have only ourselves to blame for perpetuating this humiliation — something that needs to be rectified.

We don’t need Europe the way we did during the Cold War, so it’s time to stop our carte blanche policy and step back. The Europeans need to step up to the plate — for once — and start defending themselves. We should nullify outdated treaties from a different era and remove the bulk of our forces, leaving the continent to their own devices. In addition to weaning Europe off America’s never-ending (and unappreciated) generosity, it would be a boon to our economy, as billions would be spent at home rather than in foreign economies. The same goes for South Korea, where thousands of troops serve only a symbolic, albeit expensive, function.

Instead of having troops stationed in over 130 countries, our leaders should use smarter domestic policy that would result in less blood and treasure needlessly expended overseas.

And a prime example is Iraq.

In response to the recent turmoil in Iraq, a die-hard Republican remarked, “Obama is losing the Iraq victory that George W. Bush won.”

Nothing could be further from the truth.

First, while Bush spearheaded the war effort, scores of Democrats went along by voting for the resolution. Second, and infinitely more important, there was never was a victory to lose. The chaos now engulfing Iraq, which threatens the entire Middle East, is the predictable outcome of a massive bipartisan failure, one predicated on the mentality of being the “world’s policeman.”

The intervention in Iraq should never have occurred, but since America’s modus operandi seems to be “shoot first and analyze later,” it was inevitable. Now, with thousands of Americans dead or maimed, and trillions spent, there is nothing to show for the Iraq War but anarchy and unspeakable brutality.

Ironically, America serving as the Middle East’s policeman has created a nation of lawlessness, a breeding ground for the planet’s most evil. Before the invasion, sectarian violence and car bombs were nonexistent in Iraq, as Saddam Hussein kept everything in check. A brutal dictator, to be sure, but one who hadn’t threatened or harmed America. Yet we removed him with no regard to consequences, expecting a coronation of roses but instead receiving a nonstop bouquet of bullets and bombs.

America’s invasion and subsequent dismantling of Iraq (its army, police, and political structure) with absolutely no plan for “what to do next” created a power vacuum that exists to this day. Now, two of that country’s largest cities have fallen to radical fundamentalists who are worse than the extremists they are battling. And of course, once again, there is talk of American involvement to “fix” the situation.

Three things are abundantly clear:

1. Despite all the justifications to invade Iraq, the real reason was oil, both for America and the world. But guess what? America has more energy resources in the lower 48 than almost the entire Middle East combined, and when Alaska’s mammoth resources are added, it’s a no-brainer. We need to drill responsibly to completely free ourselves of our unwinnable Middle Eastern entanglements. Not only would it throttle our economy into hyper-drive, as cheap fuel would revive America’s moribund manufacturing base, but it would immeasurably bolster national security.

2. Time to cut our losses. There is no solution for Iraq, at least not one America can produce. We need to monitor the situation closely, but from afar, cruise missiles on standby. But under no circumstances should American boots ever be on the ground there again. Enough is enough.

3. America obviously needs to protect its interests overseas, act as a respectful leader of the world, and be a beacon of light to billions. But in doing so it should heed the vision of another president named George, whose prescience about avoiding foreign entanglements is as applicable today as when he served as our first elected leader.

And the best way to do that is to arrest our misguided policy of playing policeman to the world.
