July 1 is Canada Day. It’s a celebration of Britain allowing it to govern itself in 1867. It’s not about gaining independence though. Canada remained part of the British Empire until 1982.

If we governed ourselves, instead of letting the lobbyists and anarchists control the country, it would be cause for celebration, even more than in that most subdued of nations – Canada.
