So Where Are The Political Signs?

Fran Coppock points out that the primary election is Tuesday and that that there is nary a lawn sign to be seen.

Well, regarding the presidential race Gingrich and Paul don’t have much money or support — except for maybe me — and Romney is already selling tickets to his inauguration so he probably doesn’t feel the need to spend anything on lawn signs yet.
But that certainly does not explain the hotly contest GOP senate battle. My guess is that the local Republican parties — unlike the the state one — do not want an Obama voter/Sestak donor to represent them. In other words, they are ABW (anybody but Welch)  which is good news for Sam Rohrer, Tom Smith, Dave Christian and Marc Scaringi none of whom are Steve Welch.
My vote is going to Rohrer.
Incumbent Senator Bob Casey Jr., by the way, does have a primary opponent in Joe Vodvarka, a businessman from Allegheny County. Hopefully, he is running a brillant guerilla campaign that shocks the pants off the do-nothing scion

  1. I find it refreshing not to see the area littered with campaign signs. It always makes the community look trashy,in my opinion, especially when the don’t take them down for weeks after the election.

  2. I think campaigns are waking up to the fact that there are far more effective ways of spending their limited resources than on yard signs. Activists like yard signs, but to an undecided voter the signs do nothing to move/sway numbers. For a campaign strapped for cash, especially in a statewide race, you can touch and persuade far more voters using that yard sign money on radio, cable news, or a robocall. The $10k that you spend on yard signs would be enough to dial every single registered Republican primary voter in PA twice. $10k could buy you a week of airtime on Pittsburgh talk radio. All of these things will help you reach and persuade more voters than a slab of plastic with your name on it.

Signs have their place, but I would rather my volunteers spent time going door to door speaking to voters than spending time out putting signs in the ground.

/steps off yard sign soap box.

  3. I like to see those signs. I can tell who is or isn’t in favor of raising taxes and taking away personal freedoms.
    Vote for ABO
