Church And State

DID YOU KNOW As you walk up the steps to the building which houses the U.S. Supreme Court you can see near the top of the building a row of the
world’s law givers and each one is facing one in the middle who is facing forward with a full frontal view … It is Moses
and he is holding the Ten Commandments!

DID YOU KNOW? As you enter the Supreme Court courtroom, the two huge oak doors have the Ten Commandments engraved on each lower portion of each door.

DID YOU KNOW? As you sit inside the courtroom, you can see the wall, right above where the Supreme Court Judges sit, a display of the Ten Commandments

DID YOU KNOW? There are Bible verses etched in stone all over the Federal Buildings and Monuments in Washington ,

D.C. DID YOU KNOW? James Madison, the fourth president, known as ‘ The Father of Our Constitution ‘ made the Following statement: ‘We have staked the whole of all our political Institutions upon the capacity of mankind for Self-government, upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to control ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to The Ten Commandments of God.’

DID YOU KNOW? Every session of Congress begins with a prayer
by a paid preacher, whose salary has been paid by thetaxpayer since 1777.

DID YOU KNOW? Fifty-two of the 55 founders of the Constitution were members of the established Orthodox churches in the colonies.

DID YOU KNOW? Thomas Jefferson worried that the Courts would overstep their authority and instead of Interpreting the law would begin making law an oligarchy: the rule of few over many. How then, have we gotten to the point that everything we have done for 220 years in this Country is now suddenly wrong and Unconstitutional? Lets put it around the world and let the world see and remember what this great country was Built on The Holy Bible and belief in GOD!

  1. Actually our country was built on the belief that we should have a freedom of belief and religion and right to believe whatever we want and practice any religion (or lack thereof.)

DID YOU KNOW that more and more, the ten commmandments are being removed from courts and that you don’t have to swear on the bible – you can choose to swear on a law book and say you confirm instead of you swear [so help you god.]

DID YOU KNOW that John Quincy Adams swore on a law book because he wanted to keep the separation of church and state.

This country is not a theocracy. Stop trying to push religion on everyone and then complaining about your rights being taken away. We weren’t happy about a king and queen running us and pushing their religion on us…..we broke away.

This country has changed since 1776, and I (and many other people) would prefer not to be thrown back to that time. I like my rights now, and I don’t want them taken away and having religion forced on me when this is a DEMOCRACY not a theocracy.

  2. We are a republic:

George Washington: “It is one of the evils of democratical governments, that the people, not always seeing and frequently misled, must often feel before they can act.”

Alexander Hamilton: “If we incline too much to democracy, we shall soon shoot into a monarchy.”

Alexander Hamilton: ”Real liberty is neither found in despotism, nor in the extremes of democracy, but in moderate governments.”

James Madison: “Where a majority are united by a common sentiment, and have an opportunity, the rights of the minor party become insecure.”

    And most specifically:

Polybius: “And hence when by their foolish thirst for reputation they have created among the masses an appetite for gifts and the habit of receiving them, democracy in its turn is abolished and changes into a rule of force and violence. For the people, having grown accustomed to feed at the expense of others and to depend for their livelihood on the property of others, as soon as they find a leader who is enterprising but is excluded from the houses of office by his penury, institute the rule of violence; and now uniting their forces massacre, banish, and plunder, until they degenerate again into perfect savages and find once more a master and monarch.”

  3. Would you like to comment on the other parts of my comment? Like how we actually do have a separation of church and state and you’re just making things up…..as usual.

    (snip)

Also (and I KNOW this will get edited out), instead of waging war on SSRIs, how about you question how someone so unstable could actually be allowed to have a firearm!

ED NOTE: You clearly don’t know what will get edited out and what won’t. Here is a rule of thumb: Don’t write about yourself. Writing about yourself is almost always boring. Here is another rule of thumb: Don’t complain about the referee. Take this post, for instance. But for the second paragraph in which you do complain about the referee, you actually bring some points to the discussion. This is why paragraphs 1 and 3 are being kept and will be addressed in an ensuing reply.

Regarding speech, nobody is keeping you from expressing your thoughts. Obviously, I saw them. No punishment came your way. What you have to understand is that nobody is obliged to listen to your speech. That’s a right every bit as important as you being allowed to say what you want.

  4. Like how we actually do have a separation of church and state

It means you can’t be compelled to ante up the parish dues or attend service.

It doesn’t mean we are endowed by accident with conditional privileges determined by self-appointed arbiters whose sole authority stems from a monopoly of force.

and you’re just making things up…..as usual.

Google the quotes. False quotes certainly exist on the web and I can be fooled like anybody, although that doesn’t appear to be so in this case.

how about you question how someone so unstable could actually be allowed to have a firearm!

I most certainly do question it. People who have indicated that they cannot function in society due to mental illness should not be allowed to have guns.

In the case of Lanza, btw, he wasn’t allowed to have them. He murdered his mother to get them.

  5. I’m not talking about Lanza….but his mother was shot. Maybe when they did her background check, they should’ve seen that she was an alcoholic and had someone mentally unstable living in her home.

(snip — don’t try to read minds)

    (snip)

When I say you’re making things up, I mean talking about this country based on just one religion. Sorry – no. It was founded on freedoms and a separation of church and state.

Googling quotes doesn’t make me believe anything anymore though….I’m sure you get them from wiki sites, yes?

  6. Why do you think Nancy Lanza was an alcoholic?

This country was based on the idea that the values espoused in the Old and New Testaments were correct — and that our unalienable rights come from the God described in those books.

And all of them thought that what Jesus taught was the best — even Franklin and Jefferson who could not be called traditional Christians.

Googling quotes doesn’t make me believe anything anymore though….I’m sure you get them from wiki sites, yes?

The quotes don’t come from Wiki. They are found on several sites, some better than others.

  7. I say she was an alcoholic because according to people who knew her, she was always at a bar and is even having a bar stool named after her…..and on this website, word of mouth is all the evidence you need. After all, in your last article about the SSRIs, you even wrote that there is no proof adam was on any meds, but people who have talked to him think he was…..so you used it as an example. People who talked to her think she was an alcoholic, so I’m using it as an example.

And yes, franklin and jefferson would be traditional christians – a lot of people were back then. That does NOT mean this country was founded on this religion.

JUST because the ten commandments is posted outside a courthouse doesn’t mean the country is a religious one. Where in the constitution does it say this country is based on a religion and thus, everyone should obey said religion? We’re not a theocracy.

  8. There’s also the fact that, ya know…….there’s not proof any kind of god exists. But you would rather believe in an invisible person snapping his fingers and making the universe than actual facts explaining the big bang and evolution.

Sure there is. Here’s one by Kurt Godel Forgive the missing umlaut and Wiki link. You know who Godel is right?

But you would rather believe in an invisible person snapping his fingers and making the universe than actual facts explaining the big bang and evolution.

You have a “fact” explaining the source of the Big Bang? Do you even have one supporting the claim that random genetic changes fixed by natural selection can account for all biodiversity?

  10. Yeah, I’ve read those “facts” and they’re anything but. And yes, as you do for all your “god” claims, you can google them. Unlike your claims, they can be found on founded, researched sites – not wikipedia.

I feel sorry for you for believing in an invisible friend instead of facts…especially at your age. There’s no helping you.

There was a time when religion ruled all of Europe…..it was called the dark ages.

But the David Kupelian article linked here doesn’t say Lanza was on meds. It says a lot of other school shooters and irrational killers were on meds and that there are indications that Lanza might have been on them and maybe we ought to try to find out.

You’re not saying Nancy Lanza might have been an alcoholic hence a bad mom and that we should investigate whether this led to the killing spree. You’re saying she was one.

    There is a big difference.

And yes, franklin and jefferson would be traditional christians

They would not, actually. Both were skeptical of Biblical miracles.

That does NOT mean this country was founded on this religion.

It was founded on a value system based on a belief we are created by a loving God who loves us as individuals — not a collective or state or society — and that He wants us to love each other. That value system is Judeo-Christianity
